How to setup custom permalinks structures

With the help of the Permalinks manager extension you have complete freedom on how your WordPress listings urls are structured. To setup a custom structure, navigate to Tools → Posterno tools → Permalinks in your WordPress admin panel.

Setting up a custom listings url structure.

Through the permalinks tool powered by Posterno, you now have access to a new option that let's you use taxonomies and custom fields for listings urls.

You can use custom words and dynamic permastructure tags. In the image above, as an example, we've added the word "custom" followed by the listing type assigned to the listing and the zipcode custom field.

Adding taxonomy terms

If you wish to display the listing type, or any other taxonomy term assigned to the listing within the listing's urls. You need to use the dynamic tags of each taxonomy registered for the listings post type. It's important that when you add a new tag, you make sure you add a "/" symbol to separate the listing's slug form any other tag you have added.

Adding custom fields

Custom fields can also be used within listings urls. Only fields that return a single string can be used. Fields such as text/number/radio & select.

To add a custom field you must use the tag %__custom_field_metakey% where custom_field_metakey is the key that belongs to the field you wish to use. To find the key, navigate to Listings → Custom fields, locate and edit the field you wish to use and copy and paste the metakey displayed into the settings on the right side of your screen.

In this case we're using the zipcode field and so the final tag is %__listing_zipcode%

Customizing taxonomies permalinks

You also have the ability to customize the structure of all taxonomy permalinks. Each registered taxonomy will show within the permastructures table. Please note that the taxonomy structure does not support custom fields.

Should you wish to customize a taxonomy url, locate the taxonomy you want to edit and change it's structure within the editor. In the example below we've just added the "test" word within the url. Once you're done, press the save button.

Regenerate permalinks

Each time you change the structure of a permalink, you must regenerate your permalinks. Press the regenerate permalinks button and the process will start and proceed in the background. It may take a few minutes depending on your server and the number of listings on your site. A notice is displayed until the process is finished. When complete, the notice automatically disappears.

Please note: the notice is only visible within the Posterno tools page.
